Dedicated to Sarah, Mary and Elizabeth Abney, daughters of Sir Thomas Abney.
This slim octavo volume is bound in red sheepskin decorated with gold tooling. The finishing seems to be the work of an apprentice. The sheepskin has been treated in such a way as to imitate a more expensive goatskin binding, in other words the sheepskin has been dyed and gold tooled (dressed up) to look like goatskin. Sheepskin was a cheap material used for every day trade bindings whereas goatskin was used for the finest and more expensive bindings.
A facsimile of this work can be seen in Isaac Watts Divine Songs1971 J H Pafford, p. 127-200.
